Study Background
Researchers at the Lundquist Institute are testing an experimental skin sensor to see if it can measure markers of lung infection.
Through this research, we will test our device to see whether it can detect signs of lung infection without taking a blood sample from the patient. If successful, this could prove a significant step towards developing a non-invasive early warning system for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) flare-ups.
For this study, we are recruiting individuals ages 40+ with COPD who have had at least one “flare-up” in the past year. Participants will attend an initial 3.5 hour in-person visit and then complete 4 email surveys.
Additional Information
In this study, we will test an experimental skin sensor to see if it can measure markers of lung infection without needing to take a blood sample from the patient.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 40+
- Diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
- Have experienced a worsening or flare-up of symptoms related to COPD within the past year
Participants in our study will complete one in-person visit, followed by an email survey every 3 months for 1 year. The visit will take place at our research center in Torrance, CA, and will involve a screening portion to determine eligibility, followed by study assessments.
Participants can receive up to $300 for their time and effort, broken down as follows: $100 for the first half of the in-person visit (the screening portion), $100 for the second half of the visit (the study assessments), and $25 for each of the 4 surveys.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
