Study Background

Researchers at Yale University are investigating the effects a study medication has on drinking behavior.

We are looking for people that drink alcohol on a regular basis. This study involves two all day lab sessions. Participant will take a study medication during the labs. This study is taking place at Yale University.

Each participant will complete an initial intake and physical exam to confirm eligibility. If eligible, participants will complete two all day lab sessions separated by approximately one week.

Participation is confidential.

We are investigating the effects of a study medication on drinking.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 21-50
  • Regularly have 15 or more drinks per week (women) or 20 or more (men)
  • Not seeking treatment for alcohol use
  • Like mixed drinks with fruit juice
  • Generally healthy
  • Not using illegal drugs

Study participant involves 6 in person appointments (including two all day lab sessions). If you participate in this study, here is what you can expect:

  • Each participant will complete an initial intake and physical exam to confirm eligibility.
  • If eligible, participants will complete two all day lab sessions separated by approximately one week. Participants arrive at 8am for the lab appointments (transportation can be provided for the labs) and the appointments run all day.
  • During the lab appointments participant will fill out self assessment forms and participant in a drinking session where they’ll be offered alcohol beverages (fruit juice and liquor) of their choice.
  • After the second lab session participants will come in for two follow up appointments (1 week and 1 month).

All study appointments will take place in-person. The only exceptions are the phone screen and check-in calls during the washout period.

As a participant, you can receive up to $752 for completing all phases of the study. 

It will not cost you anything to participate in our research study. For the lab sessions we can provide transportation (e.g. Uber) to and from. We can not provide transportation for the other study appointments.
