Additional Information

The purpose of this study is to examine predictors and patterns of alcohol and cannabis use across the perinatal phase (preconception to postpartum) from people across the nation who are trying to get pregnant.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18-45
  • Currently trying to become pregnant
  • Drink alcohol and use cannabis regularly
  • Own a smartphone
  • Have not been diagnosed with infertility

The study is conducted fully remote and over Zoom, lasting up to 24 months. The study involves up to three phases.

  1. The first phase is the pre-conception phase, which includes one virtual baseline appointment and monthly surveys in which you will answer questions about your alcohol and drug use, mood, health behaviors, and life experiences.
  2. The second phase is the pregnancy phase, which consists of answering daily questions using their mobile phone about your alcohol and drug use and life experiences for three two-week periods (one at the start of each trimester).
  3. The third phase is the after-delivery phase, in which you will complete a post-delivery phone session, a virtual follow-up session 6 weeks after giving birth, and a follow-up 3 months after giving birth. At both follow-ups, you will answer questions about your alcohol and drug use and life experiences, as well as your child. At each follow-up, you will also have the opportunity to complete 2-week daily diaries again.

As a participant, you can receive up to $90-$640 based on your study completion. You will also receive pregnancy and ovulation tests at no cost to you.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
