Study Background

Researchers at Loma Linda University are conducting a nutrition study with adults who have prediabetes to understand the effects of mangoes on cardiovascular health.

Prediabetes affects metabolism, cardiovascular health, and overall wellbeing in individuals whose elevated A1C puts them at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes.

The Nutrition Research Center at Loma Linda University is working to understand if eating mangoes daily will have an effect on blood sugar, inflammation, lipids, and oxidation in the body.  Findings from this study may help scientists and clinicians better understand nutritional recommendations for patients with prediabetes.

Additional Information

In this research study, we are trying to understand the impact of daily mango consumption on cardiovascular health measures in people with prediabetes. Findings from this study may be able to help providers and nutritionists make recommendations for patients with prediabetes to improve their wellbeing.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 40-60 years old
  • Prediabetes (HgbA1C of 5.7-6.4%)

Once enrolled, the study involves:

  • 1 pre-randomization visit
  • 8 clinic visits: Visits about 1 time each month following enrollment
  • 3 blood draws: at 3 of the clinic visits, a fasting blood draw will be done early in the morning.
  • Online surveys: you may be asked to answer questions at home about your participation.
  • 12 weeks of eating mangoes daily: Mangoes will be available for pickup from Loma Linda University every 2 weeks.

As a participant, you can receive mangoes for the eating part of the study and up to a $200 honorarium for your time and effort.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
