Additional Information

We’re conducting this research study to learn whether a game-like app, designed to improve cognitive functions (e.g., flexible thinking), can help children ages 8-12 with obsessive-compulsive disorder. We are also trying to learn how the brain works in children with OCD before and after completing the training.

Your child may qualify for the study if they meet the following criteria. Inclusion Criteria:
  • 8-12 years old
  • Struggle with excessive worries and related repetitive behaviors (OCD)
  • No developmental disorder, PTSD, substance/alcohol abuse, psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorder, or neurological problems

Participation in the study involves the following steps:

  • Phone interview: 30 minute phone conversation about your child’s medical and psychiatric history
  • Diagnostic evaluation with one of our clinical psychologists (virtual)
  • 4 weeks of a cognitive training intervention on an iPad at home. We will loan an iPad for your child to use.
  • 3 in-person visits that include puzzles, games, and 2 MRI scans (if your child is able). Visits will take place at the Columbia University Zuckerman Institute in Upper Manhattan.
  • 12 weeks of free therapy (CBT) with an expert clinician, if desired (virtual)

Participants can receive up to $400 if they complete the entire study.

There is no cost for your child to participate in our research study or to receive CBT treatment afterwards.
