Study Background
The purpose of this study is to pilot test Gametime, an innovative text messaging program designed to reduce drinking and HIV risk among young adult men who have sex with men, aged 18-30. This initial pilot will run for four weeks and aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the program. Participants will receive tailored messages twice a day at times they choose, allowing flexibility in engaging with the program content. Through these messages, Gametime seeks to provide helpful guidance and resources to support healthier decision-making in daily life.
To evaluate the program’s effectiveness, participants will complete surveys before and after the four-week texting period, giving insight into changes in behavior or attitudes regarding drinking and HIV risk. An exit interview will also be conducted to gather their personal feedback on the program, which will help refine Gametime for future studies. Participants will be compensated for their involvement, with additional bonuses offered for high engagement, emphasizing the importance of consistent participation in this pilot phase.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 18-30
- Assigned male at birth and identify as men
- Interested in testing a new 4 week text messaging program
The study is conducted fully remote.
Orientation – We’ll start with a brief Zoom call to explain the study in detail, answer any questions, and review the Informed Consent form with you. You can preview the consent form here.
Online Survey – Next, you’ll complete an online survey and a brief program called GamePlan to help begin the process, for which you’ll receive $30.
Text Messaging – You’ll begin a four-week texting period, receiving texts twice daily (morning and afternoon) at times you choose. You’ll earn $2.50 per day for responding, plus a $10 weekly bonus for high engagement.
