Study Background
What factors in your life influence your substance use?
People use tobacco and cannabis for a variety of reasons. Your behavior around tobacco and cannabis use might change depending on your mental health, your relationships with people around you, or experiences you have. This study is being done to better understand the health behaviors, substance use patterns, and mental health of LGBTQ+ young adults, as well as factors that influence these outcomes, like community environment, stress, family and peer relationships, and discrimination.
This study will involve completing an online survey at baseline, a short cell-phone based survey two times a day for 28 days, and a brief online survey after completing the daily surveys to ask about your satisfaction in the study. We think that you will be in the study for approximately 2 months total.

Additional Information
The purpose of this study is to understand tobacco and cannabis use behaviors and the various factors associated with these behaviors, such as mental health, family and peer relationships, and experiences with discrimination to improve the health of sexual minority-identifying people.
You may qualify for the study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- 18-25 years old
- Identify as a sexual minority/LGBTQ+
- Current substance use, like tobacco, alcohol, marijuana/cannabis
- Live in the United States
Your participation will last about 2 months and be entirely online. If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete one online survey at the beginning of the study and one brief online survey approximately one month later. You will also be asked to complete a short cell-phone based survey via a smartphone application twice a day for 28 days.
You will be compensated up to $291 for your time and effort.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
