Study Background

The research study is testing an intervention called Pain Self-Management (PSM).

PSM is an educational program in which individuals with chronic pain work with a trained pain coach to explore strategies to effectively manage the daily problems that arise from chronic pain.

The study is being conducted virtually via phone or video conference. In person visits are available at some locations.

Additional Information

This research study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of PSM intervention among individuals with chronic pain and opioid misuse/OUD in/on:

  1. reducing pain interference
  2. improving MOUD engagement

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18+ and experiencing chronic pain

  • Dependent on opioids for pain management

  • Not prescribed buprenorphine, methadone, or naltrexone

All participants will complete a total 4 outcome assessment visits every 3 months for a period of 9 months. The visits will take place at baseline (first visit), Month 3 (the end of the intervention period), Month 6, and Month 9 (the end of the study).

Participants will receive up to $435.
