Study Background
Help us improve support for U.S. Veterans with PTSD who want to reduce or quit drinking alcohol.
This study aims to find effective ways to support U.S. Veterans with PTSD who are seeking to reduce or quit drinking alcohol. Researchers at Duke Health are comparing two types of behavioral therapy to determine which approach is more effective in helping veterans drink less and improve their overall well-being. Participants will attend eight weekly, one-hour therapy sessions conducted online via Duke Zoom, making it convenient and accessible. These sessions are designed to address both alcohol use and PTSD symptoms, providing comprehensive support for participants.
Participation involves two visits to the research lab at Duke over approximately three months—once at the beginning and once at the end of the study. There are no costs for joining, and participants will be reimbursed for their time.. The ultimate goal of this research is to enhance treatment options for U.S. Veterans who face the dual challenges of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and PTSD, offering them better tools for recovery and improved quality of life.
