Study Background
Researchers at The Ohio State University are conducting a study to understand how oral nicotine pouches compare to your usual-brand cigarettes or moist snuff products, as well as whether oral nicotine pouches could serve as a substitute for your usual tobacco products.
As new tobacco alternatives emerge, it’s important to compare them to traditional products in terms of use, satisfaction, and health impact. Nicotine pouches are a popular tobacco-free, smokeless option that deliver nicotine without combustion or tobacco leaf. However, little is known about how adult smokers and moist snuff users experience these products or if they could be a viable alternative to cigarettes or moist snuff.
The THRIVE study aims to answer these questions by inviting adult smokers and adult moist snuff users to take part in a 7-visit study. Over four weeks, participants will try switching to study-provided nicotine pouches. Through in-person lab visits and daily diary surveys, participants will help researchers explore how nicotine pouches may impact tobacco use habits.
