Research Studies with the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network (ATN)
Researchers at over 40 universities, clinics, and community organizations are partnering to conduct studies nationwide that are focused on supporting sexual health among adolescents and young adults.
What Studies Are Enrolling?
The IMPACT Study
Combines sexual health counseling with evidence-based talk therapy to treat depression and reduce HIV acquisition and transmission likelihood among young people who engage in stimulant drug use (e.g., crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy, MDMA) during sexual activity.
Get up to $825 for completing 4 surveys across 12 months.
The foXXy doxy Study
Testing if DoxyPEP, an antibiotic already proven to prevent certain STIs among men, can prevent STIs for more populations, like young women.
Get up to $350 to take DoxyPEP as prescribed and complete 7 study visits, some of which include STI testing.
The LYPS Study
Providing PrEP services for young people outside of the traditional clinic setting, like in a private room in a community center.
Get PrEP at no cost and get paid up to $450 for participating in this 9-month study by attending no-cost PrEP care visits every 2-3 months.
Background
The Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV Interventions, or ATN, is enrolling participants ages 13-29 as paid volunteers for several research studies across the United States!
In our research, we focus on those who are most impacted by HIV and STIs who may experience more challenges to healthcare access.
By participating in our studies, you can help us learn more about the effectiveness of our strategies that we hope empower young people to stay healthy.

Additional Information
The purpose of ATN studies is to improve HIV and STI prevention and care for youth and young adults ages 13-29. The ATN focuses on youth because adolescents and young adults accounted for 19% of new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. in 2021. While there are several HIV prevention and treatment options in our toolbox (like PrEP, medication that prevents HIV), additional tailored and effective strategies are needed to increase usage and adherence among adolescents and young adults.
Overall, the ATN focuses its studies on youth populations disproportionately impacted by HIV. Each study has its own additional requirements for eligibility, but you may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria:
- Ages 13-29
- Living in the continental United States
Each ATN study is unique and involves different activities. Here are a few examples of what participation could involve:
- Taking a medication in an innovative way, like getting access to HIV prevention medication outside of a clinic setting
- Completing study visits like HIV and STI testing along with surveys every few months for about a year
- Learning about sexual health through digital tools the ATN tailored for your community
- Participating in a behavioral intervention like sexual health counseling services
You will be compensated for your time and effort. Amount varies by study.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research studies.
