Emory University researchers are conducting a no-cost screening to connect individuals with depression to innovative clinical studies.
Depression affects millions of adults, yet effective treatments remain a challenge for many individuals. Emory University is conducting a research participant screening to identify candidates for groundbreaking depression studies. Through a no-cost evaluation and referral process, eligible participants may be connected to research studies exploring innovative treatments, including the impact of a single dose of ketamine and the effects of inflammation on managing on depressive symptoms and brain function.
To be eligible, individuals should not be taking psychotropic medications, be non-smokers, and pass a drug screen. Additionally, participants should have experienced little interest or pleasure in activities or felt down, depressed, or hopeless within the last two weeks. The screening process consists of a virtual clinical interview and self-report surveys to helps researchers match participants with studies that may contribute to a better understanding of depression and potential new treatments. Eligible individuals will be referred to authorized study personnel for further screening and possible enrollment in on-site research trials aimed at advancing mental health science.

This screening is being conducted to identify individuals who qualify for innovative research on depression.
You may qualify for this screening if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Diagnosed with or experiencing symptoms of depression
- Not taking psychotropic medication (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers)
- Non-smoker and able to pass a drug screen
- Ages 18-65
- Have a Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number
- Able to complete multiple MRI scans (no metal on the body, no claustrophobia)
- Right-handed
- Complete Online Surveys & Interview – Participation begins with self-report surveys and a clinical interview conducted virtually. These assessments help researchers understand your symptoms and determine eligibility for further depression studies
- Time Commitment – The screening process takes approximately 2-4 hours and can be completed from the comfort of your home.
- Diagnosis – A prior depression diagnosis is not required. Participants may be diagnosed during the screening process.
- Location Requirement – Participants will need to be able to travel to Emory University.
This screening is an important step in advancing research on depression, which will eventually lead to new treatments.
The online prescreen will determine if you are eligible to participate in the virtual clinical interview, which is a 2-4 hour long Zoom visit in which you will be paid up to $75 for your participation.
