Study Background
Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital are conducting a study on self-harm to improve prevention and intervention efforts for adolescents.
Self-harm among adolescents is a growing mental health concern, with many individuals displaying visible scars from past incidents. This study seeks to identify patterns and markers that may help researchers better understand who is most at risk for self-injury and suicidal behavior. By gathering data on participants’ thoughts, behaviors, and images of self-harm scarring, the research aims to develop more effective prevention strategies. The ultimate goal is to enhance early identification methods and improve resources to support those struggling with self-harm, thereby reducing the risk of suicide attempts.
