Study Background

Researchers at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine are looking for healthy volunteers to participate in research studies examining sleep, pain, and medication responses. 

The studies involve 1 phone screen, 2 in-person screening visits at Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus, and several overnight stays at our clinical research unit.

The study may involve experimental sleep deprivation and administration of an FDA-approved pain medication and/or placebo. All study sessions, parking, and transportation are provided at no cost. Compensation up to $1205 for those who are eligible and complete all aspects of the study.

Additional Information

This research is being done to understand how sleep disruption affects the way the brain works and how sleep disruption is related to drug responses and pain.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria. 

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18-60
  • Have good sleep quality
  • Willing to stay overnight at study location
  • Not a heavy smoker or drinker

This study involves:

  • 1 phone screen
  • 2 in-person screening visits at Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus
  • Overnight stay at our Clinical Research Unit, which may include sleep deprivation
  • May include administration of an FDA-approved pain medication and/or placebo
Compensation is provided up to $1205 for completing all parts of the study.
