Study Background

Help us to better understand the effectiveness of the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit for people with dementia by participating in a study to identify what works and what does not.

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit for individuals with dementia by identifying what works and what doesn’t. By gathering insights from family caregivers, the study seeks to improve healthcare services and the quality of care for those with dementia.

Family caregivers aged 21 or older, who care for a Medicare beneficiary with dementia aged 65+, and who have had a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit in the past 12 months, are eligible to participate. Participation is voluntary and involves a 60–90-minute virtual interview, recorded for analysis. Participants will be compensated for their participation.

Additional Information

This study is being conducted to identify what works and what does not work in providing the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit for people with dementia, with the goal of improving the effectiveness and accessibility of this important healthcare service for individuals living with dementia. By understanding the experiences of family caregivers, the study seeks to highlight both the strengths and challenges of the Annual Wellness Visit, ultimately contributing to better care and support for those affected by dementia.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Caring for a family member aged 65+ living with dementia
  • Family member is a Medicare beneficiary
  • Family member has had a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit within the last 12 months
  • Ages 21+
  • Able to speak English or Spanish
  • If you participate in this study, you will complete a one-time, 60–90-minute virtual interview conducted individually.

  • During the interview, you will be asked to share your experiences and insights as a family caregiver regarding the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit for a family member with dementia.

  • The interview will be conducted virtually via phone or Zoom, allowing you to participate from the comfort of your own home.

  • The interview will be recorded and transcribed for analysis to help identify what works and what doesn’t in providing this service.

  • There will be no costs to participate. You will be compensated for your participation.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
