Study Background

University of Michigan’s MIVetsCan study is investigating the use of CBD and cannabis products to improve quality of life for veterans with chronic pain.

The MIVetsCan program includes a data registry and a clinical trial focused on improving chronic pain management. Through this research, we aim to better understand how cannabis-based products, specifically CBD, may help alleviate chronic pain.

The clinical trial, CBD-Care, is a 4-week study investigating the effectiveness of CBD for pain management against a placebo. Participants will receive study medication at no cost.

Additional Information

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether CBD may help with chronic pain symptoms among Veterans.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • U.S. Veteran experiencing moderate to severe chronic pain
  • Interested in using cannabis and/or cannabidiol (CBD) for pain management
  • Ages 18+
  • Have not been diagnosed with cancer in the past three years
  • No known allergies to sesame oil or cannabis/cannabinoids
  • No plans to move to a state where cannabis is not legal
  • Not pregnant/no potential to get others pregnant

This study consists of a data registry and a clinical trial, CBD-Care.

CBD-Care is a 4-week study where you will be randomly assigned to a group to either use the study product (CBD) or a placebo. In addition to the study medication, you will receive a Fitbit to track your activity and will be asked to fill out surveys through an app.

All participant information will remain confidential.

You can receive up to $60 and a Fitbit for participating in the study.
