Study Background

This study explores factors that influence the decision to disclose military sexual assault, and how these decisions and experiences relate to mental health.

Participation includes an online survey and the potential for an optional online interview. The project is conducted at ASU. Participation in the survey and interview is voluntary – you may discontinue participation at any time. In order to be eligible for the study, you need to be aged 18+, have served or are serving in the US military, and have a history of military sexual assault. To find out more information, please complete the screening. If you are eligible, you will be compensated $20 in Tango gift cards for completing a short, 30 minute survey. Additional Information

This study is being done to understand factors that relate to why people tell others about their experiences of sexual assault in the military.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Active U.S. service members or veterans
  • History of sexual assault (actual or attempted) by another service member
    • Actual or attempted sexual contact with you against your will where you were unable to say no (for example, after being forced or threatened or to avoid other consequences)

  • Ages 18-89

This study is conducted 100% virtually. To determine eligibility, participants will complete a short screening survey. If eligible, participants will provide military service identification proof to the study team, and will receive a link to complete a survey that is expected to take no longer than 30 mins. Some survey participants will be asked to complete an optional 1-hour interview, also conducted online.

You will receive $20 for participating in a 30-minute survey, and additional compensation opportunities may be provided.
