In this research study, we are working to better understand behavioral inflexibility and repetitive behaviors in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We aim to explore how these behaviors affect daily life, how they vary between individuals, and what factors may influence differences in rigidity and repetitive actions. The study will involve assessments of behavior, cognitive patterns, and daily experiences to gain a detailed understanding of ASD-related behaviors. By studying these aspects, we hope to generate insights that can help guide future research and improve support for individuals living with autism.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

• Ages 12–40
• Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• Live with or spend at least 4 hours per day with a parent, caregiver, or partner who is also willing to participate
  
  

Exclusion Criteria:

• Allergy to Pimavanserin or similar medications
• Inability to attend study visits at the University of Kansas Medical Center

The entire study lasts approximately 8–12 weeks. Once enrolled, the study involves:

In the lab: Participants will complete 6 or more in-person visits at the University of Kansas Medical Center. During these visits, you will complete questionnaires, medical evaluations, and tests of behavioral flexibility. Some visits will also include EEG testing, and the study medication, Pimavanserin, will be administered by the study team during select visits. Each visit lasts 1–6 hours, depending on the activities.

At home: Participants will take the study medication as directed by the research team for portions of the study that require at-home administration.

Participants are compensated $50 per visit, for up to $300 if all study visits are completed.
