Study Background
Understanding how daily experiences and discrimination impact substance use among Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander adults
Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander communities experience unique cultural strengths as well as disproportionate burdens related to discrimination, stress, and health inequities. Project ADAPT seeks to better understand how these daily experiences influence decisions around using substances such as alcohol, cannabis, cigarettes, and e‑cigarettes. By gathering real‑time information directly from participants, researchers aim to capture a more accurate picture of how stress and discrimination unfold in everyday life.
This study uses brief mobile surveys to learn how context, mood, and experiences shape substance use patterns over time. The insights gained may help inform future public health programs and support systems designed to better serve Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander communities. Participation is confidential, fully remote, and spread across four short survey periods over the course of one year.
