Idiopathic Pulmonary
Fibrosis Research Study

Researchers at Cedars-Sinai are conducting a clinical study to evaluate whether zinc and nicotinamide riboside can support people living with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). This study explores a fully remote approach while participants continue their standard care with a local pulmonologist.

Additional Information

This study aims to determine whether a remote clinical trial for IPF is feasible and whether the combination of zinc and nicotinamide riboside may help improve how patients feel and function.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)
  • Currently seeing a pulmonologist
  • Ages 50+
  • Live in California, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, or Oregon
  • Not currently taking any experimental treatment for IPF (e.g., investigational drugs, cell-based therapies)
  • No active cancer diagnosis
  • You’ll be randomly assigned to receive either zinc + nicotinamide riboside or a placebo for 24 weeks
  • Attend short monthly virtual check-ins with the study team
  • Complete blood work at the start, at 12 weeks, and at 24 weeks
  • Continue standard IPF care with your local pulmonologist (including pulmonary function tests, 6-minute walk tests, and CT scans)
  • All participation is remote, but you must have a local physician managing your IPF care

Yes, participants will receive a $50 stipend. Additional benefits include telomere length testing, monthly consultations with a study physician, and detailed reviews of your bloodwork and pulmonary test results.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
