Additional Information
This study is evaluating how well the KickNic! smartphone app helps teens and young adults quit vaping nicotine. Researchers hope the findings will improve access to effective quit-vaping support for young people.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 13–19
- Interested in quitting vaping nicotine
- Have a smartphone
If you choose to participate, you will:
- Complete a virtual 90-minute intake appointment to determine eligibility.
- If eligible, receive a nicotine saliva test kit by mail and complete a brief live Zoom appointment to provide your saliva sample.
- If you remain eligible after the first two appointments, be randomly assigned to one of two study groups:
- Active group: Receive quit-vaping guidance through the KickNic! app and participate in eight weekly 15-minute Zoom check-ins over 8 weeks.
- Control group: Receive quit-vaping guidance through a quit-vaping website and participate in four biweekly 15-minute Zoom check-ins over 8 weeks.
- Complete another saliva sample at the end of the 8-week treatment period.
- Participate in four brief virtual follow-up visits at approximately 1.5, 3, 4.5, and 6 months after the treatment period. A final saliva sample will be collected during the 6-month follow-up visit.
All study visits are completed virtually. Participants younger than 18 years old must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate.
Participants may receive up to $375–$465 in Amazon e-gift cards, depending on their assigned study group.
Additional benefits include receiving support and guidance to help quit vaping nicotine. Because all study activities are completed virtually, no transportation is required.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
