This study is looking at whether an investigational vaccine called BPL-1357 can help protect against H1N1 influenza. Researchers want to find out if it could work as the basis for a universal flu vaccine in the future.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

• Adults 18 to 55 years old
• Non-smokers (no tobacco or cannabis use)
• BMI between 18 and 35

Exclusion Criteria:

• Chronic cardiovascular or pulmonary disease (such as high blood pressure, asthma, or diabetes)
• History of an adverse reaction to a vaccine
• Allergy to two or more classes of antibiotics, or an allergy to influenza treatments

Overall Duration

• The study has two parts and takes several months total to complete.

Part 1: Vaccination

• You’ll receive either the investigational vaccine or a placebo, given as a shot and/or a nasal spray
• About a week later, you’ll have a short check-in visit
• About a month after that, you’ll come back for a booster dose, followed by another short check-in visit a week later

Part 2: Inpatient Stay

• Two to four months later, you’ll be admitted to a special unit for at least 9 days
• You’ll be given the influenza virus under medical supervision
• You’ll have daily physical exams, vital signs checks, and nasal swabs to monitor for the virus
• You’ll be discharged once your swabs show no virus for at least 2 days
• You’ll return for two follow-up visits after you leave, at one month and two months

Other Details

• Blood draws happen periodically throughout the study
• Meals are provided during the inpatient stay

Participants may receive up to $3,970 for completing the study.
