Additional Information

Researchers at Yale University, led by Dr. Kelly Cosgrove, PhD, are studying the enzyme PDE4B in the brain and body using a new radioactive compound (radiotracer) to better understand alcohol use. This research may help improve future diagnosis and treatment of conditions like alcohol use disorder.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 21-70
  • Drink alcohol regularly
    • Men: 14 or more drinks per week and 4 or more drinks per day at least twice a week
    • Women: 7 or more drinks per week and 3 or more drinks per day at least twice a week
  • Willing to participate in brain scans (PET and MRI)
  • In generally good health

If you are interested, you will first complete some assessments to determine your eligibility (2-4 hours). If eligible, you will then be asked to complete an MRI and PET scanning session. These may be on the same day or two different days and will take place in-person at the lab.

MRI Session

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan (1-3 hours)

PET Scanning Session

  • PET scan with an investigational radiotracer (approximately 5-7 hours)
  • Blood sampling (up to 300 mL)
  • Assessments and computerized testing

Participants may receive up to $640 for completing this research study.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
