The first visit is a detailed explanation of the study, the signing of a consent form, and a medical and psychiatric history. If we have time, we will do the first treatment in which an LED will be put on your forehead to positively stimulate your brain. You may be given an active treatment or a placebo or sham treatment. You have a 50/50% chance of getting one or the other.

The sham and the active treatments look the same. You will get either the active or the sham throughout the study. For the first 4 weeks, you will get 2 treatments per week and for the remainder you will get 1 treatment per week. Before and after each treatment, which only takes 4 minutes, you will be asked questions about your cravings, use, and general wellbeing. You will give a urine drug test at each visit. At the first and last visits, you will give a saliva sample to see if the treatments over 26 weeks slows your aging using a genetic test for that purpose. We will measure if the treatment can result in abstinence during the study. We will also look at whether the treatments improve your general wellbeing and functioning.

Compensation of $35 per study visit will be provided for your time and travel.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
