Study Background

Researchers at the University of Southern California are studying Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is a chronic, impairing disorder characterized by unwanted obsessions and/or compulsions. Not all persons with OCD are alike, resulting in a wide variety of symptoms, illness course, and response to treatment. The purpose of our OCD research study is to better understand differences in OCD symptoms and to predict both illness course and response to treatment.

Findings from this clinical research study will help develop models that predict response to treatment and symptom course. By comparing data from participants with OCD and healthy volunteers without OCD, we hope to provide enhanced treatments to future patients.

Participants will attend an in-person onboarding visit. This involves setting up the FitBit and downloading a smartphone-based assessment on the participant’s phone. These will be  used to measure behavior and physiology, along with day-to-day functioning and symptoms. A virtual visit will be conducted via Zoom after 2 weeks to assess OCD severity. After 10 weeks of wearing the Fitbit 24/7, there will be a study off-boarding visit. MRI imaging will be taken at the start and end of the study.
