Aging Research Study

Researchers at Cedars Sinai are conducting a research study to examine how aging affects the body’s ability to process sugars.

Live a Sedentary Lifestyle (little to no physical activity)

Conducted in Los Angeles, CA

Study Background

Cedars-Sinai is conducting a clinical research study with adults who live a sedentary lifestyle (little to no physical activity).

Researchers are studying whether cells named senescent cells (cells that age and permanently stop dividing but do not die) affect our body’s ability to metabolize (process) sugars.

This study will examine the different cells in fat and skin tissue to improve our understanding about the ways in which aging and being overweight affect the health of adults as they age.

Participants will undergo repeat tissue samples and a metabolic/physiologic assessment before and after the 10-week intervention.

Study Background

Cedars-Sinai is conducting a clinical research study with older adults who live a sedentary lifestyle (little to no physical activity).

Researchers are studying whether cells named senescent cells (cells that age and permanently stop dividing but do not die) affect our body’s ability to metabolize (process) sugars.

Additional Information

We are looking to better understand whether senescent cells (cells that age and permanently stop dividing but do not die) affect our body’s ability to metabolize (process) sugars.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18-30 OR 65+
  • Overweight
  • Live a sedentary lifestyle (little to no physical activity)
  • No major health conditions or substance abuse

This 10-week weight loss intervention will include exercise and diet modification meeting with a dietitian/nutritionist.  Participants will be randomized into one of three arms: lifestyle intervention, senolytics, or placebo.

  • Lifestyle Intervention: This 10-week intervention will include exercise and diet modification.
  • Senolytics: We will administer three rounds of a combination of FDA-approved medications. Participants will return to the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) for monthly visits. Participants will maintain their usual dietary intake and physical activity throughout the intervention period.
  • Placebo: Participants will receive a placebo and attend monthly visits at the CRU. Participants will maintain their usual dietary intake and physical activity throughout the intervention.

Compensation is provided for your participation up to $500 for ages 18-30 and up to $2000 for ages 65+.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
