Remote Tobacco Use Research Study

Researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina are conducting a study with young adults 18-25 to evaluate the impact of cannabis and tobacco/nicotine co-use.

Study Background

The Medical University of South Carolina is conducting a study with young adults 18-25 years old.

The purpose of this remote research study is to better understand the relationship between tobacco/nicotine and cannabis co-use among young adults.

This study will use a smartphone application that delivers incentives for quitting nicotine. Participants will also be provided with counseling to support quit attempts from nicotine.

The study will take about 6 months to complete and will include 17 study visits total. All procedures will be completed remotely.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18-25
  • Smoke cigarettes or vape nicotine almost daily
  • Use cannabis
  • Interested in quitting nicotine
  • No unstable medical, psychiatric, or substance use conditions
  • No current use of smoking cessation products
  • If female, not pregnant or trying to become pregnant

The study will take about 6 months to complete and will include 17 study visits total. All procedures will be completed remotely (no in-person visits).

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.

Eligible participants will be compensated up to $1,030 for their time.
