Study Background

The University of Houston is conducting a study at the Research on Emotion, Substance Treatment Outcomes, and Racial Equity (RESTORE) Laboratory. Researchers are testing a mobile app intervention aimed at helping African Americans with HIV quit smoking.

We provide resources and exercises for stress reduction and anxiety, as well as treatment videos related to HIV-related stigma, associations between HIV and smoking, and antiretroviral therapy adherence.

The study is entirely remote. Participants will download the mobile application and complete a baseline survey available through the app. Participants will receive 6 weeks of daily surveys (5-10 minutes, 4x per day) and longer follow-up surveys (15-30 minutes) at the end of each week. After this, participants will have optional follow-up surveys.
