Study Background
Researchers at the University of Utah are conducting a remote research study on tobacco cessation.
This study will investigate how stress, environment, and daily life affect people’s tobacco cessation. Participants will work with staff to set a quit date, receive tobacco cessation counseling and nicotine replacement therapy.
Participants will complete two study visits which include answering questionnaires and short surveys on a smartphone app, and wearing a heart rate monitor.

Additional Information
The purpose of this research study is to help daily cigarette smokers stop or reduce their cigarette use.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 18+
- Daily cigarette smoker
- Interested in stopping or reducing cigarette use
- Not currently using tobacco cessation treatments (e.g., nicotine patch, gum)
- Able to use nicotine patch or gum
- Not pregnant or lactating
- Have a functioning smartphone and telephone number
- Able to speak, read, and write in English
Once enrolled, this study involves two visits:
- Visit 1:
- Answer questionnaires
- Set up smartphone surveys and heart rate monitor
- Receive counseling and nicotine replacement therapy
- Visit 2:
- Answer questionnaires
- Return heart rate monitor
- Discuss compensation
Compensation is provided up to $258 in gift cards for your participation.
