Study Background

Researchers at UMass Chan Medical School are conducting a study in young adults who vape to examine the effects of electronic cigarette public education messages.

We want to learn more about young adults’ reactions and responses to public education messages about vaping. Specifically, we will be observing eye-movements, emotional responses, and cognitive responses. 

During this study, participants will be randomly assigned to groups where they will read e-cigarette education messages and descriptions of the message source. To measure responses to the messages, we will monitor each participant’s eye-movements and heart rate. After this, they will be asked to answer questions about the message, tobacco use, and demographics.

Additional Information

The goal of this study is to learn more about responses to electronic cigarette public education messages from young adults who vape.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18-24
  • Currently use e-cigarettes
  • Willing to come for an in-person study in Worcester, MA

After providing informed consent, participants will be randomly assigned to groups where they will read e-cigarette education messages and descriptions of the message source. As they read, we will measure eye-movements, emotional responses, and cognitive responses.

After this, participants will be asked to answer questions about the message and source, tobacco use, and demographics. 

As a participant, you can receive $60 for your time and effort.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
