Study Background

Researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus are conducting a study to learn more about how exercise affects the heart and blood vessels in people with and without Type 2 Diabetes.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is looking for individuals ages 30-55 years who have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and are overweight to participate in a study to test how Type 2 Diabetes and exercise influence the heart, blood vessel function, and exercise capacity.

Participants will complete a 15-week supervised exercise program consisting of 3 aerobic workout sessions per week at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. Additionally, 11 research testing visits will be conducted that will include exercise testing, assessments of heart and blood vessel function, measurements of insulin sensitivity, and MRIs.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is looking for individuals ages 30-55 years who have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and are overweight to participate in a study to test how Type 2 Diabetes and exercise influence the heart, blood vessel function, and exercise capacity.

Additional Information

The purpose of this study is to test how Type 2 Diabetes and exercise influence the heart, blood vessel function, and exercise capacity.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

  • Ages 30 to 55 years 
  • Not exercising more than 1 hour per week
  • Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes
  • Not treated with insulin or Ozempic 
  • A Non-tobacco user  
  • Premenopausal
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding

If you choose to participate in this study, you will receive a free 15-week supervised exercise program. All the research visits take place on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

In addition to the 15-week exercise program, this study also includes 11 research testing visits. Research testing visits will include blood draws, exercise testing, and an ultrasound of your heart and blood vessels.

In addition, we will test how well your body uses sugar, test your muscle strength and function, perform a muscle biopsy, and do an X-ray assessment of how much muscle and fat you have in your body.

The entire study will take approximately 8 months to complete and the visits will be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you.

As a participant, you can receive up to $1100 for your time and effort.
