Study Background

We’re conducting surveys to learn more about impaired control over alcohol across different racial and ethnic identities.

You might find that once you’ve started drinking alcohol, it is difficult to stop or control your consumption. Although impaired control is an important feature of alcohol use disorder, studies have shown that existing methods to assess impaired control do a poor job of capturing this experience and may be biased across differing racial or ethnic identities.

The goal of the Alcohol Survey Knowledge (ASK) study is to improve the assessment of impaired control over alcohol use using qualitative (cognitive interviewing) and quantitative methods. This survey is specifically recruiting Black and African American participants in order to combat the bias of existing methods.

The results from this study could eventually improve the assessment of alcohol use disorder and increase understanding of the causes of impaired control over drinking.
