The purpose of this study is to gather opinions and reactions to an artificial intelligence (AI) program designed to help Black and African American adults quit smoking cigarettes.
This study involves a brief survey and one online focus group where participants will share their opinions about a new app to help people quit smoking using a chatbot (an AI-powered personal assistant).

Researchers at the University of Minnesota and Hennepin Healthcare are conducting a study to gather opinions and reactions to an artificial intelligence (AI) program designed to help Black and African American individuals quit smoking cigarettes.
You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 21+
- Identify as Black or African American
- Smokes cigarettes
First, you will speak over the phone with a research coordinator and complete informed consent. Then, participants interested in the study would come to one 90 minute focus group held online (on Zoom) and would complete a short survey about their smoking history and demographics. In total, the study would take about 2 hours.
As a participant, you will receive $50 for your time and effort.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
