Additional Information

The goal of this study is to determine if compassion meditation (CBCT, Cognitively-Based Compassion Training) or health education is more effective at reducing psychological distress for breast cancer survivors, when delivered online together with a supportive loved one.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Breast cancer survivors and their loved ones
  • Finished treatment less than 5 years ago
  • Living with a loved one and able to participate in meditation classes with them

Overall Duration

  • Participation spans several virtual visits over the course of the 8-week program plus follow-ups.


Getting Started

  • Virtual screening/sign-up visit: online screening questions, informed consent, self-reported relationship quality, demographics, and cancer treatment release form (as applicable)


Study Visits

  • Virtual baseline visit (before the intervention starts): self-report on psychological distress, social connection, relationship mutuality, and intervention expectancy, plus at-home saliva samples to assess the stress hormone cortisol
  • Three virtual post-intervention visits (after the 8-week program ends, then 1 month later, then 6 months later): the same self-report measures and at-home saliva samples each time

Compensation is provided up to $240 per pair.
