Research Study
People use tobacco and cannabis for many different reasons, and these patterns may shift based on what’s happening in their lives. In this study, we want to find out how life circumstances – like stress, mental health, discrimination, and relationships with family and peers – influence tobacco and cannabis use among LGBTQ+ young adults.

This confidential study aims to understand tobacco and cannabis use behaviors among LGBTQ+ young adults and the factors that influence them, including mental health, relationships, community environment, and experiences with discrimination. Findings from the study may help improve future health resources for sexual minority–identifying communities.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Assigned male sex at birth
- Identify as LGBTQ+
- Use cannabis regularly and use tobacco
- Ages 18-25
- Live in the United States
Participants will:
Complete an online baseline survey.
Complete brief smartphone-based surveys twice daily for 28 days.
Complete a short follow-up online survey after the daily survey period.
Total participation lasts about 2 months, and the study is completed entirely online.
Participants can receive up to $291 for their time and effort. No travel or transportation is required, as all study activities occur online.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
