Remote Healthy Aging
Research Study
As people get older, changes in balance, memory, and physical activity can increase the risk of falls and affect overall health. Researchers are studying ways to help older adults stay active, improve physical and mental well-being, and reduce the risk of falling. This study will examine the effects of online exercise programs, including Tai Ji Quan and other activities, to learn how they may support healthy aging and help prevent falls among older adults.

Additional Information
This study is being conducted to better understand healthy aging and explore ways that online exercise programs may improve balance, physical health, cognitive function, and overall quality of life in older adults.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
- Experience issues with balance and/or have had a fall in the past 12 months
- Able to walk 1-2 blocks without assistance
- Ages 65+
- Not currently participating in vigorous activity or Tai Chi exercise classes
Overall Duration
- This study will last approximately 12 months. During this time, participants will take part in a 24-week online exercise program and complete follow-up assessments to help researchers understand how online exercise programs may support healthy aging, improve balance, and reduce the risk of falls.
Remote Study Activities
- All study activities will be completed remotely from the participant’s home. Participants will complete a 24-week online exercise program that includes two one-hour classes each week. These classes may include Tai Ji Quan, stretching, or other exercise activities designed to support balance, movement, and healthy aging.
- Participants will also complete four one-hour Zoom visits with the research team throughout the study: at the beginning of the study, after 4 months, after 6 months, and 6 months after the exercise program ends. During these visits, participants may complete activities that measure balance, walking ability, memory, attention, and overall health. Participants will also complete monthly check-ins with the research team to report whether they have experienced any falls since their last check-in.
Participants may receive compensation for their time and participation in this study. Eligible participants may earn up to $120 based on their attendance and completion of the online exercise program.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
