Study Background

Researchers at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR) are conducting studies in adults ages 18–65 to understand mental health conditions, how they develop, and ways to improve them.

Mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and OCD, affect mood, behavior, and daily functioning, and are linked to changes in how the brain and body respond to stress and process information. We aim to better understand these conditions in adults and how they impact brain and body function. This study also seeks to identify factors that influence mental health and to explore ways to improve well-being for people experiencing these conditions.

Ultimately, the findings from this research may help guide the development of more effective treatments and improve quality of life for individuals with mental health conditions.

Additional Information

In these research studies, we are trying to better understand how mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and OCD affect adults. We aim to explore how these conditions influence brain and body function, including stress response, mood regulation, and cognitive processing. We will examine how these conditions relate to behavior, daily experiences, and physiological markers, and we will measure all of these factors. We also want to investigate ways to improve mental health and well-being for individuals experiencing these conditions. To do this, we are using neuroscience to guide our research and assessments, employing methods and activities that have been used in clinical research to better understand mental health and identify potential strategies for treatment and support.

You may be eligible for a study if you meet the following criteria:

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18–65
  • Currently experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or OCD
  • Medically stable

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Research studies have specific eligibility requirements. Individuals with a history of methamphetamine use within the past six (6) months are not eligible to participate.

The studies are conducted over multiple visits, which may include both in-person and remote participation. Once enrolled, studies involve:

In-person: You will attend an initial visit at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR) in Tulsa, OK, where you will complete surveys about your mental and physical health, provide basic medical information (such as blood pressure, height, and weight), and complete tests such as a breathalyzer and urine screen.

Remote: You will also participate in virtual interviews focused on your mental health, psychiatric history, and overall well-being. These interviews will be conducted via phone or video call and will be audio recorded for accuracy.

As a participant, you will be paid up to $50/hr after each study visit.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research studies.
