Study Background

Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine are conducting a research study to improve alcohol and/or stimulant use disorder recovery through the use of technology.

Findings from this clinical research study will help determine how technology can support recovery from alcohol and/or stimulant (amphetamines, cocaine, and similar drugs) use disorders. The study uses virtual reality and telehealth applications to explore the personality and behavior of people in recovery.

All study visits take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. Participants will complete an in-person interview (3 hours), followed by a study day (4 hours). There will also be a 30-day follow-up visit (1 hour) and a 6-month follow-up visit (1 hour). Additionally, participants in recovery from alcohol may have the opportunity to complete an fMRI scan, which has been of particular interest to previous participants.
