Study Background

Researchers at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center are studying how romantic partners who both smoke think about and manage smoking, their motivations, and how it affects their relationship.

Smoking in romantic couples, where both partners currently smoke, can influence motivation, habits, and relationship dynamics. This study aims to understand how dual-smoker couples think about smoking, their motivations for continuing or changing their habits, and how their smoking behavior interacts with their relationship over time.

By learning more about these patterns, we hope to identify factors that could support healthier choices and improve both individual well-being and relationship satisfaction. Ultimately, the findings of this study could inform interventions for couples who smoke and enhance their overall quality of life.

Additional Information

In this research study, we are trying to understand smoking behavior in romantic couples where both partners smoke. We aim to learn how couples think about smoking, what motivates them to continue or consider quitting, and how their smoking habits interact with their relationship. We will measure participants’ smoking patterns, relationship satisfaction, and motivation to change their behavior.

We also want to see how these factors influence each other over time and whether certain patterns in couples’ behavior or motivation could help inform strategies to support healthier choices. Using these insights, we hope to better understand dual-smoker couples and ultimately provide information that could improve both individual well-being and relationship satisfaction.
