Study Background
Researchers at the University of Washington are conducting a study to test a new mobile health app designed to reduce substance-related harm and improve quality of life among people who meet criteria for alcohol use disorder.
Participants will be asked to use the app and engage with its features, which include tracking metrics, personalized goal-setting, and ways to stay safer and healthier when drinking. Participants will also be asked to complete online questionnaires and video-conferenced interviews to learn how we can improve the app. We will ask additional questions about alcohol consumption, experience of alcohol-related harm, and overall health.
Participation in this study is confidential, and all data collected will be used to improve the app’s functionality and helpfulness in supporting people on their journey to reduce alcohol-related harm and boost health and wellness, even if they continue drinking.

Additional Information
Researchers at the University of Washington are conducting a research study to test the usability, feasibility, and acceptability of a new mobile health app designed to help people with alcohol use disorder reduce the harm they experience when drinking – even if they are not ready, willing, or able to stop or cut down.
We are looking for people who:
- Are ages 21+
- Drink alcohol daily
- Live in the US
- Are comfortable using a smartphone, mobile health applications, and completing online interviews and Zoom virtual interviews with your camera on
If you are eligible to participate in this study, you will complete a screening visit and procedure visit, as outlined below:
- Participants will be asked to use the app and engage with its features, which include tracking metrics, personalized goal-setting, and ways to stay safer and healthier when drinking.
- Participants will also be asked to complete online questionnaires and video-conferenced interviews to learn how we can improve the app. We will ask additional questions about alcohol consumption, experience of alcohol-related harm, and overall health.
- Participation in this study is confidential, and all data collected will be used to improve the app’s functionality and helpfulness in supporting people on their journey to reduce alcohol-related harm and boost health and wellness, even for those who continue drinking.
As a participant, you can receive up to $50 for each completed interview.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
