The purpose of this project is to test a new app designed to support mothers who have trouble affording food. The app uses proven psychology techniques to help mothers manage stress.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Identify as a woman or nonbinary
- Have children under 18 in your household
- Have struggled to afford food at times or sometimes worry about running out of food
- Not currently in counseling for a mental health condition

If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will participate in an 8-week program delivered through an app. Each day, you will receive 3 messages throughout the day. Each week, you will set a goal based on your needs, and we will suggest tips on the app to help you meet it. The app can also connect you with free resources in your area. The entire study will happen online, so there is no in-person participation needed.
Study activities include:
- Electronic consent form
- Initial Zoom meeting (30-45 minutes)
- 2 online surveys
- Using a mobile app for 8 weeks
- 2 follow-up surveys
- Optional interview about your experiences in the study (45-60 minutes)
Participants can receive up to $180 in compensation for their time. The exact compensation you receive depends on the amount of the study that you complete.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
