Study Background

Researchers at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases are partnering with individuals ages 18-60 to participate in this study.

The study is being undertaken by a team of dedicated clinical professionals with the objective of assessing the safety and tolerability of an investigational drug for preventing HIV among enrolled study participants. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of the drug’s impact on the well-being and experiences of participants, researchers aim to glean invaluable insights that can inform the refinement and development of future preventive medications. Ultimately, this endeavor holds promise for the advancement of HIV prevention strategies, potentially paving the way for more effective and well-tolerated interventions in the ongoing battle against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Additional Information

This study is being conducted by the NIAID/Vaccine Research Center to test the safety and tolerability of an investigational product targeting HIV. This will help researchers to understand how the drug makes people feel and lead to improved preventative medications.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Healthy adults ages 18-60
  • Willing to have blood samples collected, stored, and used for research purposes
  • Have not recieved any investigational study product for HIV
  • Available for clinical follow-up through the last study visit
  • Located in the DMV within a 50 mile radius of the National Intitutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

All screening and study visits will be conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. If eligible to participate, you will be assigned to one of six study groups. You will receive one or more doses of the investigational study medication by IV infusion or injection and will have 14 to 27 study visits over a period of 6 to 11 months. The type and number of doses and study visits will depend on the study group you are assigned to. At each study visit you will be asked questions about your health and will have your blood drawn. Some of the samples will be used to check your health and some will be used to understand how the product stays in your bloodstream and affects immune response.

As a participant, you can receive up to $5,750 in compensation, which depends on what group you are in and how many visits you complete.

There is no cost to participate in our research study.
